Question to the Scotland Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland, if he will agree to the section 30 order requested by the Scottish Government for a Scottish independence referendum; and what assessment he has made of the implications for his policies on a referendum of the (a) 2019 general election results in Scotland and (b) votes for a referendum in the Scottish Parliament.

The Prime Minister has received the First Minister of Scotland’s correspondence of 19 December 2019 seeking a transfer of power from the UK Parliament to the Scottish Parliament to allow for an independence referendum. The Prime Minister will respond in due course. The UK Government remains committed to respecting the result of the 2014 Referendum as set out in the Edinburgh Agreement.

My officials are awaiting receipt of the latest suite of proposals from the Islands partners. Once this is received, we will consider the contents and announce next steps towards agreeing an Islands Deal.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland, with reference to the Prime Minister’s announcement of 28 July 2019 on City Region and Growth deals, what information has been made available to(a) Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, (b) Orkney Islands Council and (c) Shetland Islands Council on a deal for the Islands.

My officials continue to engage with the Islands partners and most recently met with the Islands Deal Programme Director on 2 August and 4 September to discuss next steps.

Officials also spoke with the Leader of Orkney Islands Council on 27 August.

We expect to receive the latest suite of proposals from the Islands partners later this month.
