Written Question
European Union
Thursday 3rd July 2014

Asked by: William Cash (Conservative - Stone)

Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, on the initiative of which member states the wording of the draft Conclusions of the EU Presidency at the European Council meeting on 26-27 June 2014 relating to the role of national parliaments in the EU was reduced in scope and significance in the final version.

Answered by David Lidington

We welcome the reference in the June European Council Conclusions to the closer involvement of national parliaments in EU decision-making. We will continue to push for a strong voice for national parliaments within the EU, but Her Majesty's Government is not able to disclose the detail of negotiations.
