Maintain elections during the Coronavirus crisis vía postal voting

We can already vote by post during elections. This doesn’t even need new systems to be implemented. Voting in person and risking transmission is all that needs to be postponed. Not elections themselves.

We have no idea how long this crisis will last and whilst the government has declined to step in to postpone sporting events or music festivals, they have immediately chosen to postpone democratic elections.

Our right to vote is our single most important right as citizens of a democracy.

It should not be placed lower on our list of priorities to maintain than football matches and pop concerts especially when there is no reason for people to have to gather in person in order to vote.
