The Government should suspend the current government contract awarding process, where contracts can be approved by Ministers, and ensure complete exclusion of ministerial input into selection of companies for contracts where state money is paid to private orgs.

When Ministers are able to give input into or make decisions about government contracts, there is clear scope for conflict of interest. Removing ministers from the process of awarding contracts would ensure such conflict of interest cannot arise.
We call for an independent body to ensure that the interest of the country are not secondary to the personal interests of decision makers. This requires ministers to not be involved in decision making.
