Cabinet Office is actively planning to roll out GOV.UK Verify to private sector in line with the commitments made in the Government’s Transformation Strategy. This will enable people to use the same account, which meets high government standards, to prove their identity online for private sector services, such as opening a bank account without having to go into a branch.

Value for taxpayer money is being assessed on an ongoing basis, to inform future commercial arrangements.
