The successful delivery of probation services relies on the work of public and private sector providers, as well as a range of other organisations including voluntary sector bodies and mutuals.

The department has contracts with 21 Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs). Nineteen of the 21 CRCs are being run with assistance from staff mutuals or voluntary sector organisations.

We do not currently have plans to expand the role of mutuals in the delivery of probation services. Probation providers will continue to work with a range of partners to ensure they protect the public and rehabilitate offenders.
