The Home Affairs Select Committee report on prostitution recommended erasing prostitution-specific criminal records. However, as set out in the Government response, we believe that a greater understanding of the prevalence and nature of prostitution in England and Wales is required prior to considering further changes to relevant policy and legislation. The Home Office has committed £150,000 to commission this research.

It is up to employers to decide on the suitability of any applicant for any job, taking into account all the information available, which may include criminal records information as appropriate to the role applied for.
