Question to the Department for Education:

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what the average level of per pupil funding in schools (a) was in 2009-10 and (b) will be in 2022-23, in 2019-20 prices.

The latest figures from the Institute for Fiscal Studies show that average real terms (2019-20 prices) per pupil funding for 5-16 year olds has risen overall from £4,599 (primary) and £5,991 (secondary) per pupil in 2009-10, to £5,016 (primary) and £6,220 (secondary) in 2019-20. In August 2019, the Government announced the biggest funding boost for schools in a decade, which will give every school more money for every child. This includes an additional £2.6 billion for 2020-21, £4.8 billion for 2021-22, and £7.1 billion for 2022-23, in comparison to 2019-20. On top of this, the Department will provide £1.5 billion each year to fund additional pensions costs for teachers.
