As confirmed in the Secretary of State for Transport’s Oral Statement on Monday 5th February, his Department is conducting a full appraisal of the options available to the Government to ensure continuity of service. This includes the service being operated by the Department for Transport through an operator of last resort and Stagecoach continuing to operate the service. In either scenario, the East Coast Mainline is expected to deliver substantial revenue to the taxpayer.
