We were deeply saddened to hear of the death of Li Baiguang on 25 February 2018. We look to the Chinese authorities to provide comprehensive details of the circumstances surrounding his death. We have not made representations to the Chinese authorities on this specific case.

We are concerned by reports that a number of human rights defenders have died whilst in prison and allegations that they have been denied access to medical treatment. We raised our concerns directly with the Chinese authorities at the last round of the UK/China Human Rights Dialogue which took place in Beijing on 27 June 2017.
