Question to the Department for Education:
To ask the Secretary of State for Education, pursuant to his oral contribution of 19 March 2018, Official Report, column 8, on Social Mobility, what estimate he has made of the number of two-year-old children who would be eligible for the free childcare entitlement (a) if the transitional arrangements remained in place and (b) under the new threshold.
Under the new annual net earned income threshold of £15,400, it is estimated that by 2023 around 7,000 more children will benefit from the two-year-old entitlement compared to the previous benefits system.
