Across transport, there is an active cyber programme: departmental officials meet regularly with industry to provide advice and guidance to operators on their management of cyber risk. This aligns with the Government priority to ensure the UK’s Critical National Infrastructure is secure and resilient against cyber attack, as set out in the National Cyber Security Strategy. The Department also works closely with the National Cyber Security Centre to enhance understanding of cyber security capabilities, allowing resources to be appropriately targeted.

Implementation of the Directive for the Security of Network and Information Systems (NIS Directive), in May this year, will enable the Department to build on this progress and steadily secure the improvement of cyber security in our key transport systems.
