Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what the timetable is for the employment of 3,000 new midwives by the NHS.
The Government has committed to increasing the number of available midwifery training places in England by more than 3,000 over a four year period. The increase in available places will start in the 2019 academic year, with an additional 650 training places made available, a 25% increase on the current available midwifery training places.
Training of midwives outside of England is a matter for each of the devolved administrations in that country.
