In August 2017, the Government published two future customs proposals, which are dependent on the outcome of the negotiations with the EU.

The UK and the EU have agreed on the terms of an implementation period, which will start on 30 March 2019 and last until 31 December 2020. However, as a responsible government, we continue to plan for all scenarios. We remain on course to deliver a functioning customs, VAT and excise system that enables trade to flow, HMRC to collect revenues, and the UK to have a secure border.
