It is for local National Health Service organisations with their knowledge of the healthcare needs of their local population to invest in training for specialist skills and to deploy specialist nurses.

Salford Royal NHS Trust advises that, in line with its approach to the caring and support for patients with muscle disease, it is currently investing in the clinical workforce to support the service. The Trust currently has a Specialist Nurse in the peripheral nerve and muscle service.

The Department is making significant investment in nurse training. In order to meet the growing need to increase the future supply of registered nurses additional clinical placement funding was announced by the Department in August and October 2017. This will make around 5,000 more nurse training places available each year from September 2018; an historic increase.
