Data about assaults by prisoners, including those on staff and on other prisoners, is published in the quarterly Safety in Custody statistics. The figures for January to March 2018 are scheduled to be published on 26 July.

The most recent statistics were published on 26 April and cover assaults to December 2017. Figures for individual prisons can be found in the data tool: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/702356/assaults-data-tool.xlsx.

We are taking urgent action to make prisons safer, and assaults on our hardworking staff will never be tolerated. We are ensuring that prison officers have the tools they need to do their jobs by rolling out body worn cameras, 'police-style' handcuffs and restraints, and trialling PAVA incapacitant spray.
