Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether his Department has (a) made an assessment of the potential merits of adopting a preventative approach to healthcare for dentistry and (b) developed plans to implement such an approach.

Our proposals for dental contract reform will aim to incentivise preventative dentistry, prioritise evidence-based care for those with most need and reduce incentives to deliver care that is of low clinical value. An evidence-based toolkit ‘Delivering better oral health: an evidence-based toolkit for prevention’ published by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities, supports dental teams in delivering preventive advice and treatment for patients.
