Question to the Department for Work and Pensions:

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, whether her Department plans to take provide financial support to employment support allowance applicants who have had their payments stopped without notice in the last twelve months as a result of her Department becoming aware that it had been erroneously paying those claimants an appeal rate over an extended period.

The Department identified a number of cases where an appeal outcome was outstanding and where it should not have been. The Department is working to ensure that affected claimants are receiving their correct benefit entitlement. All affected claimants will be contacted by phone or by letter to advise them of what will be happening in their case.
