The UK is clear about the importance of accountable democratic institutions, the rule of law and the safeguarding of human rights. The Foreign Secretary discussed the importance of these issues with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira on 17 February. The UK has a deep and longstanding relationship with Brazil based on shared commitments to human rights, democracy and the rule of law and we look forward to working with President Lula and his government to further strengthen our cooperation, including on civil and political rights in Brazil.
