Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps he is taking to ensure the (a) early diagnosis and (b) prevention of bowel disease.

To support clinicians in the diagnosis, treatment, care and support of patients with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, which are collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has published best the practice guidance Crohn’s disease: management in May 2019, and Ulcerative colitis: management, published in May 2019. Although there is no cure for IBD or specific intervention to prevent it, treatment can relieve symptoms and improvement quality of life.
