The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) discloses personal data from its registers to authorised third parties with a legitimate reason for requesting it, only where it is fair and lawful to do so and in compliance with the Data Protection Act. Safeguards are in place to ensure that the data provided to third parties is requested for specific purposes and is used appropriately.

All data-subjects have the right in law to request that the DVLA does not disclose personal data where this would cause unwarranted and substantial damage or distress. The DVLA does not operate a general opt-out from the release of information from its records.
