The letter issued by DWP advising individuals of their National Insurance number focuses on the primary use of the National Insurance number i.e. for the payment of tax, national insurance contributions and to claim benefit.

The letter directs individuals to gov.uk where information relating to the organisations that need to use the national insurance number is provided. This includes Electoral Registration Officers for Voter Registration.
