The Government’s Dementia 2020 Challenge and associated implementation plan describes a programme of action to deliver sustained improvements in dementia care. The Challenge commits to all staff having the training they need by 2020. The requisite training needs are set out in the Dementia Training Standards Framework. Good progress has been made to date in training the social care workforce with around half of those estimated to need tier 2 have undertaken training to a level equivalent to it. The Department is currently exploring options for further increasing take up of tier 2 training to everyone who needs it.
