Patients are represented on the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence’s (NICE) appraisal committees and patient groups are able to register as stakeholders in appraisals and comment on NICE’s recommendations.

NICE consulted on a range of proposed changes to its processes earlier this year as part of the ongoing review of its methods and processes. This included removing the terms ‘consultee’ and ‘commentator’ to allow all stakeholders, including patient groups, the same rights to participate in evaluations. NICE expects to consult on its draft programme manual in summer, with implementation of the changes from early 2022.
