For cancer research, the National Institute for Health Research spent £136 million in 2017/18, an increase from £101 million in 2010/11. This constitutes the largest investment in a disease area.

For cancer treatment, NHS England can only provide information on those services that it commissions through its specialised commissioning function. Other services would be commissioned locally by clinical commissioning groups and therefore not collected centrally. In 2017-18, NHS England estimates that £3.9 billion was spent by NHS England Specialised Commissioning. The attached table shows a breakdown of figures.
