Sexually Transmitted Infections: Young People

Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what recent assessment he has made of the potential effect of compulsory relationships and sex education on rates of sexually transmitted infections in young people.

There is clear evidence that good quality relationships and sex education has a protective function in a number of important areas. Studies show that gaining information mainly from school was associated with lower reporting of a range of negative sexual health outcomes, including unsafe sex and previous experience of sexually transmitted infections.
