We remain open to negotiating Youth Mobility Scheme (YMS) arrangements with other countries and territories, including the EU or nations within it. However, we are unable to disclose the status of negotiations as they occur, further details of additional YMS agreements will be announced once they are concluded.

We currently have nine YMS agreements with countries and territories across the world, which enable over 20,000 young people to travel to the UK each year. YMS visa holders have a general right to work across the economy and are not limited to undertaking a role as an au pair.

As has been the case since 2008, the UK’s immigration system will not offer a dedicated route for au pairs and this Government will not look to create one.

Our YMS agreements provide a valuable route for mutual cultural exchange and are not simply a one-way route for recruiting from overseas.
