Bereavement services are provided in a number of ways across the National Health Service, social care and the voluntary sector.

Clinical commissioning groups commission and enable access to bereavement services locally as part of high quality, compassionate and person-centred care. For instance, anyone who feels that they need support following the death of someone they know, can either self-refer, or be referred, to an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies service for a clinical assessment of their needs. If appropriate, treatment should be offered in line with National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance.

To support commissioners, the Government is working with NHS England and the voluntary sector to identify exemplar bereavement care pathways.
