The department has mechanisms in place to collect data on volumes of courses offered nationally and on what is delivered. Data regarding the number of starts and completions of accredited programmes is published in Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) Annual Digest, and can be found at the following link: https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/prison-and-probation-trusts-performance-statistics.

National data tools, including segmentation of the prison and probation population, are made available to HMPPS periodically to support business planning decisions at a local and national level. Data relating to referrals and suitability is held locally.

We also keep under review and closely monitor courses that are offered and delivered to ensure that standards are maintained.
