The accompanying excel file sets out figures relating to ratio of prisoners to Band 3-5 prison officer by prison (for public sector prisons), as of 31 March 2022.

The minimum number of staff on each residential unit required during periods of unlock is determined by ‘Safe, Decent and Secure Operating Levels’ (SDSOLs) which are agreed in each establishment. These vary depending on a number of factors such as design and size of a residential unit, specialist functions or prisoner cohort.
