A Short Term Benefit Advance (STBA) is an advance payment of benefit normally paid at the start of a new claim to claimants who meet the qualifying criteria.

Circumstances in which an STBA may not be paid include where there is some doubt as to whether the claimant will be entitled to the benefit.
