Management and oversight of local security strategies (LSS) is undertaken at a local and regional level; there is no central co-ordination.

All prisons are required to have a LSS in place. This is a live document, bespoke to that prison and reflective of local risks. Any updates or changes are agreed and signed off locally by the Governor or Director of a contracted prison.

Prison Group Directors at a regional level, together with Governors/Directors of contracted prisons, are required to sign an annual assurance statement that states that the LSS of that prison is fit for purpose.
