The department holds regular meetings with food industry representatives and with the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs, covering a variety of issues.

There is no evidence to suggest widespread disruption to education as a result of issues with food supply and the department will continue to expect schools to meet the School Food Standards. Schools have a great deal of flexibility in the foods that they can deliver under the School Food Standards. If a particular product is not readily available for any reason, the standards allow schools a wide range of freedom to substitute in similar foods that are available. It is commonplace for schools and caterers to regularly review their menus.
