Question to the HM Treasury:

To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, with reference to page 46 of the HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) Annual Report and Accounts 2016-17, what account was taken by HMRC of its Greening Government commitments in decisions which led to increased commuting times for its staff.

HM Revenue and Customs’ (HMRC’s) performance against the Greening Government Commitments to reduce impact on the environment relates to business travel and does not extend to staff commuting. HMRC recognises that its Locations Programme will lead to increased commuting times for some of its staff. All its regional centres will be easily accessible by public transport, which is not always currently the case, and co-location in a single large building will mean that staff can work collaboratively, minimising business travel.
