It is the role of the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) to determine applications by trade unions to be statutorily recognised by an employer for collective bargaining purposes.

The CAC publishes an annual report detailing its activities over the past year. This can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cac-annual-reports

Where a trade union can demonstrate that it has majority support in the workplace for recognition, the CAC will award statutory recognition for collective bargaining purposes.
