Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether a letter from an NHS Trust or GP advising an individual that they are classed as clinically extremely vulnerable is sufficient evidence to provide an employer with when explaining that they are currently unable to return to work.

Government advice asks employers to accept the letters sent to the clinically extremely vulnerable as evidence of their need to be absent from the work place.

Employers have the discretion to decide what is sufficient evidence and Government guidance asks that they avoid making requests for further medical evidence during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to relieve pressure on NHS services.
