To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what discussions he has had with the Royal Bank of Scotland on plans to close further branches; and if he will make a statement.

The Government’s shareholding in RBS is managed at arm’s length from HM Treasury by UK Financial Investments. Any decisions relating to the bank’s commercial operations remain a matter for the bank’s independent management team.
