Question to the Ministry of Justice:
To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, how many legal aid providers there were in each region of England and Wales in each of the last six years.

Note that the above figures show the number of firms with a legal aid contract in each given year. A firm may have multiple offices which offer legal aid.
The LAA reviews provision on a regular basis to identify any areas where action is required to maintain service provision. A new tender process for all civil legal aid contracts is due to launch shortly, with services under these contracts beginning in autumn 2018.
