Question to the Ministry of Justice:
To ask Her Majesty's Government what was the total weight of drugs recovered in prisons in England and Wales in (1) 2017, and (2) 2018 to date.

189 kilogrammes of drugs were recovered in prisons in England and Wales in 2017 and 50 kilogrammes of drugs were recovered between January and March this year. Data for the months since March 2018 will be available on GOV.UK in July 2019, as part of the Annual HMPPS Digest. The volume of drugs recovered reflects not only the number of attempts to convey illicit substances into our prisons but also our success in finding and recovering these drugs.
