This question was answered on 13th February 2020

The Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) is a Government research body providing anonymised health data for the purposes of public health studies and clinical research. The CPRD receives de-identified patient data from general practices and anonymised data from other sources such as NHS Digital, all of which are further anonymised in accordance with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) Anonymisation Code of Practice.

Requests for the CPRD’s data are subject to a risk assessment process and research proposals are reviewed by an Independent Scientific Advisory Committee before data are released to researchers, to ensure that the data remain anonymised in line with the ICO code and that patient confidentiality is safeguarded.
