After careful consideration of the latest scientific evidence from the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies, the Government confirmed face coverings can help to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19, in some circumstances. Evidence shows a face covering can help to reduce the spread of droplets and therefore the potential infection of others.

From 11 May 2020, the public were advised to consider covering their mouth and nose when in enclosed spaces, such as public transport or shops.
