The Government considers the findings and views from a wide range of organisations, including the Resolution Foundation. The UK, along with many other countries around the world, has experienced a severe recession caused by coronavirus. In response, the Government has increased the support available to protect jobs and support businesses.

To support those in employment, the government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) will remain open until December, with employees receiving 80% of their current salary for hours not worked, up to a maximum of £2,500.

To support young people, the Government launched a £2 billion Kickstart Scheme, creating hundreds of thousands of new, fully subsidised jobs for young people at risk of long-term unemployment, as well as a guaranteed foundation of support for young people on Universal Credit.
