Open Petition since 5th January 2024

Hold a parliamentary vote on assisted dying - 203,196 Signatures
(Estimated Final Signatures: 231,977 - 405 added in the past 24hrs)

This petition calls for the Government to allocate Parliamentary time for assisted dying to be fully debated in the House of Commons and to give MPs a vote on the issue. Terminally ill people who are mentally sound and near the end of their lives should not suffer unbearably against their will.

The Government responsed to this petition on 22nd February 2024 (View Full Response)
It remains the Government’s view that any change to the law in this sensitive area is a matter for Parliament to decide.
Open Petition since 1st November 2023

Create a statutory offence of manslaughter by coercive or controlling behaviour - 16,539 Signatures
(Estimated Final Signatures: 17,059 - 94 added in the past 24hrs)

We want the Government to create a specific statutory offence of manslaughter by coercive or controlling behaviour. The legislation creating this offence should make it clear that it applies in cases where coercive or controlling behaviour cause someone to take their own life.

The Government responsed to this petition on 18th January 2024 (View Full Response)
The Government has no plans to create a specific offence of manslaughter caused by controlling or coercive behaviour. Existing law can already cover such circumstances.
Open Petition since 9th January 2024

Do not allow original wills to be destroyed after 25 years - 15,348 Signatures
(Estimated Final Signatures: 15,873 - 10 added in the past 24hrs)

Please #SaveOurWills! The MoJ proposes to digitise and then allow the destruction of original wills after 25 years. We call for the original wills to be preserved in perpetuity in line with current legislation. Do not agree to legislative changes that would allow the destruction of these documents.

The Government responsed to this petition on 1st March 2024 (View Full Response)
Possible reforms to the storage and preservation of wills are being consulted on, no decisions have been taken as yet, and a response will be published later this year.
Open Petition since 20th February 2024

Implement Affirmative Consent for Sexual Activity - 11,158 Signatures
(Estimated Final Signatures: 12,345 - 15 added in the past 24hrs)

Implement affirmative consent: a clear, voluntary, explicit agreement to engage in specific sexual activity, requiring ongoing communication and mutual understanding. This would emphasise active consent rather than an absence of objections. We ask that legislation be updated to this model.

Open Petition since 4th December 2023

Provide for resentencing for everyone serving an indeterminate prison sentence - 11,204 Signatures
(Estimated Final Signatures: 11,587 - 51 added in the past 24hrs)

We call upon the UK Government to recognize and safeguard the human rights of Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) inmates, by enabling them to be resentenced so indeterminate sentences can be replaced.

The Government responsed to this petition on 15th February 2024 (View Full Response)
Retrospectively changing the lawfully passed sentence would risk public protection. It is vital that those serving the IPP sentence in prison are released only when the Parole Board deems them safe.
Open Petition since 15th February 2024

(Estimated Final Signatures: 8,334 - 29 added in the past 24hrs)

I would like the Government to set automatic bail requirements for those on bail who have been charged with domestic violence related offences, including coercive control and stalking.

(Estimated Final Signatures: 7,329 - 8 added in the past 24hrs)

We want the Government to remove the policing role from mayors, and instead establish elected Police and Crime Commissioners for areas where these powers are currently held by mayors.

Open Petition since 27th March 2024

Remove the 28-day time limit from the unduly lenient sentence scheme for murder - 969 Signatures
(Estimated Final Signatures: 4,610 - 79 added in the past 24hrs)

I would like the Government to remove or amend the 28-day time limit for applying to the lenient sentence scheme to have a sentence reviewed, for convictions of murder.

Open Petition since 28th March 2024

Impose a five-year minimum sentence for carrying knives - 1,609 Signatures
(Estimated Final Signatures: 3,482 - 12 added in the past 24hrs)

I want the Government to impose a 5-year minimum sentence for all those found to illegally carry a knife. There is more to be done to combat knife crime, but I want the Government to start here.

Open Petition since 9th April 2024

Impose 30 Year Minimum Sentence Without Parole for Child Murderers - 354 Signatures
(Estimated Final Signatures: 2,035 - 98 added in the past 24hrs)

We advocate for the rigorous application of life sentences for child murder convictions, mandating a minimum of 30 years or a whole life order without the option for early parole.
