Written Question
Trade Promotion: Australia
Tuesday 7th March 2023

Asked by: Nick Thomas-Symonds (Labour - Torfaen)

Question to the Department for Business and Trade:

To ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, when the Prime Minister's Trade Envoy for Australia was appointed; and how many times they have visited that country since their appointment.

Answered by Nigel Huddleston - Financial Secretary (HM Treasury)

The Prime Minister’s Trade Envoys support the UK Government’s overall strategy to drive economic growth, promote UK trade and encourage inward investment. In addition to visiting their respective markets, Trade Envoys undertake a variety of activities including meeting UK companies, hosting inward delegations, and speaking engagements. Due to travel restrictions arising from the Coronavirus Pandemic, many visits to markets were disrupted and Trade Envoys had to work virtually or through other means, strengthening the relationships to support the Government’s trade and investment agenda.

Israel: Coronavirus
Wednesday 9th June 2021

Asked by: Julie Elliott (Labour - Sunderland Central)

Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what discussions he has had with the Israeli government on covid19 vaccinations in that region.

Answered by James Cleverly - Home Secretary

The British Embassy Tel Aviv and the British Consulate-General Jerusalem are in regular contact with the relevant parties and continue to raise the issue of timely access to vaccines. The Foreign Secretary most recently raised this during his visit to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories on 26 May. The UK is committed to global equitable access to effective vaccines as demonstrated by our £548 million contribution to the COVAX Advance Market Commitment (AMC) - the international initiative to support global equitable access to vaccines. We are pleased that the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPTs) were among the first to benefit from the COVAX scheme with delivery of over 61,000 doses that arrived on 17 March 2021. Since that initial shipment, we are pleased that several further deliveries have arrived in the OPTs, including most recently on 1 June 2021.

Asked by: Jack Lopresti (Conservative - Filton and Bradley Stoke)

Question to the Ministry of Defence:

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, whether his Department has received guidance from the Government of Israel on the involvement of military personnel in the covid-19 vaccination rollout programme.

Answered by James Heappey

Her Majesty's Government has had sustained engagement with the Government of Israel on their vaccination programme. This has included Defence's Surgeon General regularly engaging with his Israeli counterpart. The Ministry of Defence however has not been in receipt of guidance from Israel specifically on the use of military personnel in vaccine roll out. We will remain in regular contact with the Government of Israel and health providers regarding efforts to tackle the virus.
