Allow the direct import of horses from South Africa

The Government should work with South Africa (SA) to enable the direct export of horses from SA, with appropriate quarantine arrangements, thus avoiding the export transit journey to the UK via Mauritius and other European countries.

Since there is no agreement allowing the direct export of horses from SA to the UK, horses are exported via a strenuous 4 - 6 month transit from SA to Mauritius to Europe, with the last leg of the journey still to be made to the UK. This is a long and expensive journey, which can affect the horses' health and fitness.

There are British and SA citizens who seek a direct and affordable journey for their beloved pets from SA to the UK, with the UK being the end destination.
