Provide dedicated funding to support deaf athletes

UK Deaf Sport are asking the Government to end what we believe is discrimination against elite deaf athletes and fund and support them as they do Olympic and Paralympic athletes. This would support elite deaf athletes and the Deaflympics GB Team to compete at the Deaflympics.

There is no dedicated funding or Government support for deaf athletes. DCMS provides millions in funding for Olympic and Paralympic Sport through UK Sport each year. Deaf athletes cannot compete in the Paralympics unless they have another Paralympic disability, so deaf athletes are excluded from accessing this funding. Deaf athletes compete in the Deaflympics which precedes the Paralympics. It is an entirely separate event recognised by the IOC as part of the Olympic family alongside the Olympics and Paralympics.
