Allow Type 1 diabetics to be individually assessed to join the Armed Forces

We urge the Government to allow Type 1 diabetics to be individually assessed for military service. We think the current blanket ban disregards medical advancements and individual capability. We feel a fair, case-by-case assessment could ensure skilled, committed individuals aren’t excluded.

We think the military’s blanket ban on Type 1 diabetics is outdated. With advancements like artificial pancreas pumps, many can effectively manage their condition. We feel this policy prevents capable, skilled individuals from serving their country. We think individual assessments could ensure decisions are based on ability, not just diagnosis. A fair system could open opportunities for dedicated recruits while maintaining operational effectiveness.
