Require drivers in all traffic accidents to call 999 immediately, not after 24 hours or via non-emergency lines. Require police to test for drugs and alcohol at the scene & tougher penalties for drink & drug driving.
Current law lets drivers involved in serious accidents wait up to 24 hours to report via non-emergency numbers, which may let them avoid immediate breathalyser or drug tests. We think this risks public safety and denies victims timely justice. We think requiring instant 999 calls and on-the-spot testing could help close these loopholes, ensure quicker police response, and hold drivers accountable, protecting everyone on the roads.
