Shut down the UK Government and Parliament Petitions system

Stop funding the UK Government and Parliament e-petitions system and shut it down. We believe it's a waste of taxpayer money, that it consistently ignores public feedback, and that it enacts not enough real change. Shut it down.

We think the petitions system creates a false sense of participation and that despite sometimes receiving hundreds of thousands or millions of signatures, very few petitions lead to actual policy changes or parliamentary debates that result in legislative action. In our view, it wastes public money maintaining a system that we feel largely serves as a "lightning conductor," allowing people to feel heard without genuinely influencing government decisions.
