Government to commence the Medical Training (Prioritisation) Bill in 2027

The Government must ensure that the provisions of the Medical Training (Prioritisation) Bill once enacted come into force in 2027 not 2026, as the selection process is already underway for this year and a 2026 commencement would retrospectively affects this year’s process.

Resident doctors have spent significant amount of time and financial resources for this year’s application process which closed in November/December for Specialty Posts. The long listing and shortlisting process have already happened so the bill once enacted would retrospectively affect the process. Also, the role of significant NHS experience has not been reviewed for this year but will be for next year which we believe presents an inequality in the application of the law between years.
